課程概述 |
This course is designed to introduce DFLL students to university-level English writing. We will begin by learning what Jane Aaron calls “features of academic writing,” with a focus on punctuation, mechanics and common sentence faults. We will then practice patterns of paragraph development including, but not limited to, analytic (definition, division-classification), descriptive (description, narration, process), and argumentative (comparison and contrast, cause and effect). Students will rehearse each of the introduced patterns through four paragraphs and four revisions. Students will also have a chance to analyze creative samples of these patterns through one individual presentation and examine crucial writing strategies through one group presentation. Students are expected to attend regularly, to write with diligence and passion, and to show commitment to course assignments and class discussions. |
